Nine Twenty Engineering & Manufacturing are delighted to be partnering with Safehinge Primera as they look for a Product / Mechanical Design Consultant to join their Glasgow team on an initial 3-6 month contract.
Safehinge Primera design award winning products that protect people through vulnerable times – from schools to hospitals and mental health facilities – and this role is a chance to contribute to products that truly make a difference.
We’re looking for someone with strong mechanical/product design experience, ideally in consumer focused components where functionality meets design detail.
Contract details
- Initial 6 months (with potential extension into production phase)
- 40 hour week, core 09:00 – 17:00 (some flexibility)
- Based in Glasgow, hybrid (2–3 days on-site per week)
- Competitive day rate
What you’ll be doing
- Design and develop product solutions, from initial concept through to testing and validation
- Focus on smaller, consumer-driven components, balancing aesthetics and functionality
- Collaborate with engineers on-site to prototype, problem-solve, and test design iterations
- Support the engineering team through the product development cycle, contributing technical expertise and creative input
- Apply rigorous testing processes to ensure designs meet safety, usability, and performance requirements
What we’re looking for
- Proven experience in mechanical and technical product design
- Hands-on approach to testing and problem solving
- Background in consumer product or design consultancy projects is highly valued
- Strong ability to balance aesthetic appeal with functional performance
