Nine Twenty Recruitment are currently recruiting an excellent opportunity of Packaging Engineer to join a leading Global manufacturing organisation during an exciting period of growth, investment and transformation in their busy Packaging Engineering Department based at their Glasgow site.

Job Purpose:

  • Responsible for driving the resolution of manufacturing material issues and championing product quality throughout the full product lifecycle
  • Responsible for project managing all aspects of Quality, Manufacturing, Capex, Sourcing, Supplier and Customer Service packaging material projects ensuring on time and to budget delivery whilst minimising obsolescence
  • Responsible for the delivery of material improvement, Value Engineering and relevant Productivity projects.
  • Support the PD function to drive the development of packaging specifications and feed into Design for Manufacture initiatives

 

Key Responsibilities:

Manufacturing

  • Actively support daily operations of the Cells to troubleshoot material related line issues, feed into Focus Improvement Groups and Cell OEE action meetings
  • Liaise with suppliers for long term quality / production issues to ensure root cause corrective actions related to all aspects of material specifications are identified and delivered to the Cell
  • Provide key input to line moves and liaise with internal departments to coordinate BOM’s, capacity, component specification and performance related to any product move of line

 

Quality

  • Investigate line quality issues and causes of poor material efficiencies as reported by the Cell manager or Customer Complaints
  • Utilising problem solving techniques and technical knowledge of materials and lines, work with line team and suppliers to fully investigate and identify root cause and implement effective corrective actions through the Change Request process

CAPEX Engineering

  • Support capex engineering projects for new equipment, product line moves and ensure material supply is designed for labour optimised autonomous bottling lines.

Supply Chain

  • Manage complex group directed and material supply projects from brief to implementations.

Project Management

  • Manage and deliver interdepartmental projects including Value Engineering opportunities, manufacturing based issues, product line moves, resolution of customer complaints, delivery of Customer Services requirements and validation of supplier initiated specification changes whilst delivering on time solutions
  • Utilise the Change Request process to deliver projects. Responsible for initiating Risk Management process, identifying and assessing risk and identifying and implementing relevant mitigating actions
  • Build robust business cases detailing total costs of projects including Cost of Goods, Capex, origination costs and product routings.

Technical Expertise

  • Utilise technical expertise in both components manufacturing process/ component interaction/ component to machine interaction to identify and successfully mitigate technical risks
  • Design appropriate validation methods including laboratory tests and line trials Validation methods must take into account risk level, cost and urgency
  • Support Sourcing and NPD in the identification of validation methods and cost reductions/ innovation opportunities through detailed knowledge of supplier manufacturing process and CBL bottling capability
  • Utilise technical knowledge and business acumen to assess risk and identify and implement robust and practical mitigating actions to reduce risk
  • Management of regular line trials and implementation of critical packaging specification changes.
  • Management of Material Product Integrity process for glass/ closure/ corks including management of Product Integrity Measurement for all glass/ lines

Communication

  • Setup and maintain strong relationships between bottling and all business manufacturing support functions e.g. BOM, MRP, Sourcing, Customer Service, Dry Goods, Planning and key suppliers
  • Posess strong explanatory and language skills to influence stakeholder opinions and to manage resistance.

 

Key Skills and Experience:

Business Knowledge

  • The role requires change management experience within a FMCG environment

Essential Functional / Technical Skills

  • Degree or equivalent qualification / Experience in Engineering/Business or Science discipline.
  • FMCG experience/ understanding of bottling hall/ production environment
  • A sound understanding of Lean Manufacturing and subsequent practical experience (Ideally Greenbelt trained)
  • Institute of Packaging Diploma/ equivalent or significant technical experience in packaging materials
  • Commercially aware with the ability to build a business case
  • Ability to lead cross functional multi disciplinary teams both internally and externally with suppliers
