Distillery Maintenance Technician – Mechanical

Nine Twenty Recruitment are delighted to be supporting our Drinks Manufacturing client in their need for a Distillery Maintenance Technician to join their team permanently. 

This role is primarily based in Islay with travelling to other sites, focusing on maintenance preventative and repair work, responding to breakdowns when required, fault finding, installation and improvement work carried out to a high standard within dangerous and explosive environments.

You must be highly flexible and be able to support other maintenance activities when required within the maintenance team. Building great relationships with peers and leadership team members across all functions.

Responsibilities are but not limited to:

  • To carry out Mechanical maintenance preventative, repair and installation supporting other maintenance activities and personnel
  • Fully conversant in the use of CMMS systems to ensure all work is prioritised and carried out to a high standard, follow up work and parts correctly detailed
  • Engages with Distillery teams to prioritise issues, supports RCPS activities
  • Completes allocated weekly maintenance plan within Asset care team and feeds back concerns.
  • Supports Asset care strategy across sites
  • Works safely and complies with all company & legislative processes and policies
  • Supports contractor management and Permit to work systems
  • Coaches and supports the development of team members and Engineering apprentices
  • Engages with Distillery leadership teams to optimise maintenance outages and parts /plant required
  • Engages with OEMs for escalation and support
  • Leads and executes small capital expenditure projects

Skills required:

  • Recognised apprenticeship
  • HNC/HND Mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • IOSH/NEBOSH preferable
  • Competent in MIG, TIG and stick welding processes, sheet metal and steel fabrication procedures
  • Experience in maintaining Boilers, steam systems and Distillery process plant equipment
  • Prioritising and planning workload from CMMS
  • Good knowledge of engineering best practices and principles
  • Strong health and safety knowledge, IOSH preferable
  • Exposure to project work and contractor engagement advantageous
  • Full driving licence essential and
