About the Role

We are seeking an experienced SQL Database Administrator to join a growing financial services organisation. This is a key role in ensuring the stability, performance, and security of business-critical database systems. You will be responsible for maintaining SQL databases, optimising performance, managing security, and ensuring high availability in a fast-paced and regulated environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, and optimise SQL databases.

  • Manage backup, restore, and disaster recovery processes.

  • Monitor and improve database performance, including tuning queries, indexes, and stored procedures.

  • Ensure database security, including access controls, encryption, and compliance with data protection standards.

  • Support database upgrades, patches, and migrations.

  • Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to design and implement efficient database solutions.

  • Document processes, procedures, and system configurations.


Candidate Requirements

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience as a SQL Database Administrator or similar role.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL.

  • Experience with performance tuning, indexing, and query optimisation.

  • Expertise in backup, restore, high availability, and disaster recovery.

  • Understanding of database security best practices.

  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Desirable Skills:

  • Exposure to other relational database systems (MySQL, PostgreSQL).

  • Experience in financial services or regulated industries.

  • Familiarity with scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash).

  • Knowledge of GDPR, PCI DSS, or other compliance frameworks.
