Monday – Friday (40 hours per week)

 

Nine Twenty are proud to be working with Walker Precision Engineering to find a CMM & QA Engineer to work with them in their Cambuslang site. This role will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of complex, high spec components and the ideal candidate should have proven experience in programming and operating CMMs and a deep understanding of quality systems.

 

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all Health & Safety and Environmental policies and regulations. Proactively identify hazards and promote a safe, sustainable work environment.
  • Develop CMM inspection programs and methodologies for New Product Introductions (NPI), including fixture design, gauging identification, probing strategies, and alignment routines to ensure accurate and repeatable measurements.
  • Create, test, and optimise existing inspection CMM programs using PC-DMIS & Calypso preferably, alternative software will be considered.
  • Support the first article, in-process, and final inspections to ensure components meet customer specifications.
  • Apply GD&T principles and interpret engineering drawings and 3D CAD models accurately.
  • Generate detailed inspection reports and maintain records for traceability and audits.
  • Document non-conformances and support continuous Improvement initiatives / cost reduction activity of manufacturing processes.
  • Support Cost estimations through detailed analysis from a quality aspect.
  • Technical support / troubleshooting of shop floor CMM’s.
  • Support investigations / Root Cause Analysis for any defective part and implementing corrective actions, following a systematic approach within a cross functional team.
  • Liaise with customers on drawing updates and change requests from a dimensional and inspection methodology.
  • Conduct capability analyses (e.g., Cp, Cpk) of production processes to assess measurement system performance and ensure process stability and compliance with quality standards
  • Utilise SPC tools, including run charts and control charts, to monitor process performance, identify trends, and support data-driven decision-making for continuous improvement.
  • Training operators or inspectors on inspection equipment and procedures.
  • Support quality certification efforts by preparing and participating in audits, ensuring compliance with standards and implementing corrective actions based on audit findings.
  • Ensure all CMM programs, probe configurations, and inspection documentation are finalised, version-controlled, and ready for production handover.
  • Perform routine calibration and verification of CMMs and measurement tools to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with quality standards.

 

Requirements

  • Strong Engineering background.
  • Time served Engineer and / or HNC/HND/Degree in an Engineering/Quality discipline.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft office suite.
  • Lean Six Sigma – Would be advantageous.
  • Statistical software – Would be advantageous.

 

Technical Skills & Attributes

  • CMM Programming: PC-DMIS & Calypso (other software will be considered) offline and online programming.
  • GD&T: Strong interpretation of engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • SolidWorks: CAD Inspection fixture design.
  • Inspection Methods: First Article Inspection (FAI), in-process, final and visual inspection, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Statistical Tools: SPC, Cp/Cpk, run charts, control charts, basic Minitab use.
  • Measurement Tools: Use manual measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators, etc.) to verify and cross-check CMM results, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Calibration & MSA: Routine equipment calibration, Gage R&R studies
  • Documentation & Reporting: Excel-based reports, ballooned drawings, inspection logs.
  • CMM: Probe calibration, and stylus configuration.
