Technical Director Trainee - Electroacoustics 

Location: Hamilton, with occasional remote work and travel to customer sites across the UK and Ireland.

Nine Twenty Engineering & Manufacturing are thrilled to announce our collaboration with Acoustic Metrology Ltd for this exceptional and unique opportunity. We are actively seeking individuals with distinctive talents who hold a degree in Electronics or Electro Acoustics. Ideal candidates will possess knowledge of electroacoustic measurement principles, vibratory measurement principles, and familiarity with electroacoustic vibration standards, along with expertise in software design techniques. Acoustic Metrology Ltd (AML) are a specialised company providing calibration and repair services for audiometric, acoustic and vibration instrumentation.  The company has a laboratory facility in Hamilton, Lanarkshire and provides an on-site calibration service which covers the UK and Ireland supported by an existing team of engineers.  AML are leaders in the field of audiometric calibration and hold UKAS accreditation for the calibration of measurement microphones and audiometers. AML are part of the Demant Group.

This will be a hands-on role in all technical activities within the laboratory, contributing to the maintenance and development of calibration systems and capabilities. Additionally, you will work towards involvement in the maintenance and development of electroacoustic standards through participation in UK, EU, and other relevant committees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake training and research activities as supervised by the Technical Director.
  • Assume responsibility for delegated technical issues within the laboratory.
  • Contribute to maintaining UKAS accreditation and work towards becoming a UKAS "Laboratory Manager."
  • Participate in technical development projects to enhance measurement capabilities.
  • Assist in managing laboratory and on-site calibration systems and associated software.
  • Perform traceable and UKAS calibrations, progressing to high-level calibrations with training and experience.
  • Contribute to the preparation of quality system documentation, including technical procedures.
  • Engage in online and in-person technical meetings as required.

Skills/experience required:

  • Degree qualified in electronics/electroacoustics with a proven research track record.
  • Ideally knowledge of electroacoustic and vibratory measurement principles and techniques.
  • Familiarity with electroacoustic and vibration standards and reference documents.
  • Proficiency in software design techniques for electroacoustic measuring systems.
  • Familiarity with the vb.net development environment.
  • Knowledge of analog and digital circuitry.
  • Experience in electronic faultfinding and prototype circuit fabrication.
  • Software development skills for electroacoustic measurements.
  • Experience in a UKAS laboratory or similar environment.
  • Practical experience in audiometric and electroacoustic calibration measurements.
