West Coast Scotland (Beith)
Permanent
Nine Twenty Engineering & Manufacturing are supporting Armstrong Chemtec Group as they look to appoint a Process Engineer into their UK team.
Armstrong Chemtec are a globally recognised engineering business, specialising in the design and manufacture of proprietary heat transfer and process equipment for hazardous and complex environments. With over 60 years of engineering expertise and a strong US heritage, they support major international customers across the oil & gas, petrochemical and energy sectors.
This is a brand-new role, created to build process engineering capability in the UK and reduce reliance on the US team - offering a unique opportunity to be part of a growing function within a well-established global business.
The Opportunity
This is a front-end, process design-focused role, sitting at the intersection of engineering and commercial delivery.
You won’t be running a plant - instead, you’ll be:
-
Designing technical solutions
-
Interpreting customer requirements
-
Producing proposals and estimates
-
Supporting the sales process from an engineering perspective
You’ll be working on bespoke equipment solutions, supporting large-scale international projects with global clients and EPCs.
It’s ideal for someone who enjoys the analytical, problem-solving and design side of engineering, rather than day-to-day operations.
What You’ll Be Doing
-
Reviewing and triaging incoming technical enquiries
-
Interpreting process data, customer specifications and datasheets
-
Carrying out process design calculations and equipment sizing
-
Developing budget estimates and progressing to detailed proposals
-
Supporting ongoing technical clarifications with customers (often over extended timelines)
-
Contributing to both new equipment and aftermarket / retrofit enquiries
-
Working closely with the US process engineering team, learning established design rules and proprietary systems
What We’re Looking For
We’re open on experience level - this could suit someone early in their career or a more experienced engineer:
You will likely have:
-
A degree in Chemical Engineering / Process Engineering (or similar)
-
A genuine interest in process design and engineering calculations
-
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability
-
Confidence to make decisions and work independently
-
Ability to manage multiple live enquiries and priorities
-
Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage customers technically
Desirable experience:
-
Heat transfer / thermal processes
-
Oil & gas, petrochemical or related process industries
-
Exposure to ASME or similar design standards
-
Experience in applications, proposals or front-end engineering
Why This Role is Different
-
You’ll focus on engineering thinking and design, not operations
-
Work on bespoke, technically complex solutions, not standardised systems
-
Gain exposure to decades of proprietary engineering knowledge
-
Be part of building a new UK engineering capability within Armstrong Chemtec
-
Work with major global clients and EPC projects
Package & Benefits
-
Competitive salary depending on experience
-
Profit share scheme
-
Enhanced pension contribution
-
Early finish on Fridays
-
Strong overall benefits package
