Field Technical Engineer (Workplace Protection Engineer) 

Home Based with Regular Travel - South of England including the greater London area and south of Birmingham

For over 50 years IOM have been at the forefront of research to understand and mitigate a wide range of occupational and environmental health risks. Thier aim is to improve people’s safety and wellbeing in all aspects of their life.

Their team of engineers work within workplaces and healthcare environments to help monitor and improve staff & patient safety. 

They are currently looking to expand their UK team of experienced workplace protection engineers particularly for their clients in the south of England.  Location can be flexible, however candidates based south of Birmingham and surrounding areas would be at an advantage.  All candidates will be expected, at times, to travel extensively across the UK as part of your role.

They are looking for a Workplace Protection Engineer to expand their team. This is home-based with regular travel throughout the South of England and some travel further North.  You will be delivering consultancy excellence for clients as well as providing professional and technical support internally and externally. Ideal candidates would be Technical Engineers, or specialists in the field of ventilation testing, design or installation and maintenance, who are looking to expand their skills into healthcare ventilation and occupational hygiene.

Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out site-based work, with 50% to 90% of time every week on site and the rest of the time working from home.
  • Validation and verification of critical ventilation systems, such as operating theatres, mortuaries, endoscopy, and pharmacies.
  • Taking airflow, particle, pressure and noise measurements and sampling for microbiological surface and air concentrations using a range of testing equipment.
  • Working at client’s healthcare sites to audit their care areas as well as inspections of mechanical ventilation plant in plant rooms.
  • Comparison and interpretation of the results against recognised Health Technical Memorandum and other standards.
  • Preparing, writing and reviewing technical reports based on our report templates.
  • Coordinating work with clients’ on-site facilities engineers and other site staff.
  • Following SOP’s and Quality Standards (UKAS knowledge and experience would be an advantage).
  • Costing work and providing technical expertise to support the preparation of bids & tenders.

Requirements:

  • Experience within an engineering discipline
  • Enthusiastic and able to work with clients and colleagues at all levels.
  • Enjoy working as part of a team but able to work remotely on their own initiative.
  • A full clean driving licence.
