We are supporting an established engineering business based in Glasgow who sell machinery into organisations within process industries including waste, waste to energy, distilling, water, pharmaceutical and many more. They offer an extensive engineering support package around their machinery and are well established in the UK Marketplace. 

They are seeking a commercially minded engineer to join the business in their next stages of moving the business forward and are seeking someone who has excellent relationship building skills who can help them develop their territories and sales strategy. 

This is not just a typical sales opportunity and you will be involved in many aspects of the role from strategy, face to face meetings, marketing, corporate hospitality, events to estimating and working with internal engineering teams to build solutions.

The Role:

The Technical Sales Engineer will play a pivotal role in increasing sales and revenue growth by visiting our customers to understand their issues and explain how we can help them.  The ideal candidate will have a strong industry background, an understanding of engineering issues and the ability to create a rapport with customers to develop customer accounts. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Sales and Support:
    • Identify and develop new business opportunities by understanding customer needs and presenting appropriate solutions.
    • To listen and provide technical expertise and process recommendations to customers.
    • Prepare and deliver technical presentations and product demonstrations to potential clients.
    • Respond to customer inquiries, providing detailed technical information and addressing any concerns.
  • Customer Relationship Management:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, understanding their business and technical needs.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for customers, managing the sales process from initial contact through to contract negotiation and closure.
    • Conduct regular follow-up with customers to ensure satisfaction and identify opportunities for additional sales.
    • Maintain our Microsoft Dynamics CRM System including comprehensive visit reports.
  • Sales Strategy and Execution:
    • Develop and implement strategic sales plans to achieve company sales targets and objectives.
    • Collaborate effectively with our technical and engineering specialists to support customer develpment.
    • Prepare detailed quotations, ensuring all technical and commercial aspects are addressed.
    • Negotiate contracts and terms of sale, ensuring profitable agreements that benefit both the customer and the Company.
  • Market Analysis and Reporting:
    • Conduct market research to identify potential customers and market trends.
    • Analyse competitors and industry developments to inform sales strategies.
    • Prepare regular sales reports and forecasts for management, highlighting achievements and areas for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent listener with the proven ability to build and maintain customer relationships.
  • Proven experience in a technical sales role, preferably within the industrial machinery or engineering sector.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) or equivalent technical background, preferred.
  • Strong technical knowledge of engineering products and finding solutions to process problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand customer needs and translate them into effective solutions.
  • Proficient in using CRM software and other sales tools.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented, with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to meet with customers and attend industry events.
