Nine Twenty Engineering & Manufacturing are proud to be partnering with IndiNature who are a vibrant business that produces sustainable construction materials. They have developed a natural fibre insulation system called IndiBreathe using hemp and flax grown in the UK, that can be fitted in new and retrofit building projects.

They are now preparing to launch the first natural fibre insulation factory in the history of the UK. This  factory will be producing carbon negative insulation for homes and commercial properties and are partnering with Nine Twenty to recruit their first employee into this part of the business for their new Production Facility in the Scottish Borders.  

Raw materials include industrial hemp and flax fibres from UK farmers. These will be processed through a non-woven textiles production line which has been designed and is being installed in stages over the course of about one year.

The Role:

This is a very exciting opportunity for the right candidate - as a Technical Production Manager/Factory Start Up Manager you will work alongside two cofounders and an administrator with the CEO being your line manager - you will play a vital part in this start up plant, from installing machinery, writing SOP’s to  engaging and managing contractors  – your goal is to have the production line operating and making certified products ready for sale by summer 2022.

You will have strong Project Management experience and preferably previous experience of working within a start up manufacturing plant. You will come with a strong technical mindset with practical engineering/mechanical experience and ability to work with machinery to produce Non-Woven Textiles ensuring machinery is installed safely & efficiently.

You will be involved in making a good impact based on the company's values - caring about the environment and climate being key; and you will also be a vital part of forming a good and enjoyable working culture. 

You must have the ability to work smarter, work calmly in a pressurised environment, be a strong decision maker whilst problem solving being a key part of this role. A 'can-do' attitude is important.

You will preferably come from a Non-Woven Textiles Manufacturing environment with a passion for Environmental Sustainability.

You Will:

  • Be the primary person responsible for setting up the production line
  • Use project management software to manage projects and provide overview reports
  • Manage machine installations - working with machine manufacturers and specialist installation engineers
  • Co-ordinate and manage machine deliveries and installation engineers
  • Manage and complete installation within budgets and schedules all the way to full operation
  • Manage building fit-out works - working with architects, structural engineers and building contractors
  • Ensure all statutory permissions are in place such as building warrants.
  • Manage and complete building fit-out within budgets and schedules all the way to final compliance.
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are in place and are being followed - including risk assessments for all projects
  • Ensure environmental standards are being met and controls in place - you will be responsible for all EHS activities
  • Ensure quality control systems are in place for the production line and products- you will work with certification bodies to meet industry standards
  • Create monthly budget and scheduling reports.
  • Use 5s and lean manufacturing approaches in the production line and factory layouts.
  • Define and implement a total productive maintenance program to minimise unintended disruptions

Skills required:

  • You will come from a Manufacturing Operational background with prior experience of setting up production lines (Preferably textiles but would consider similar production industries)
  • You will have strong Project Management skills & experience  
  • You will have the ability to manage & guide a team of contractors
  • You will have strong budget management experience
