The Software Development Manager will lead and develop our in-house team of developers and testers to deliver our technology roadmap. The post holder will have overall responsibility for the design, execution and implementation of technical projects and applications, delivering them in a timely and cost-effective manner. A large part of this role will also be to drive the ways of working in the development processes, improving the quality of our technical solutions, and ensuring we can deliver value as early as possible using a range of methodologies. The Head of Technology will also act as the main focal point for delivery of our technical roadmap to an audience of varying levels of technical knowledge and expertise.

Overview of Tasks:

  • Have a proven track record in delivering large scale technology projects, from web development, to mobile and/or desktop-based applications.
  • Have previous experience as a Head of Technology or similar role with evidence of leading a team.
  • Have experience working on integration technologies, cloud platforms, information security, and a solid understanding of API design and frameworks, API gateways, API security & auditing.
  • Demonstrate hands-on experience in delivery frameworks - Agile and Waterfall.
  • Demonstrate capability in web application frameworks and database management systems, including SQL, MSQL & Python.
  • Ensure that a clear vision and delivery plan for our technology and digital services transformation is communicated to key staff and that ongoing delivery is transparent and well-communicated across the business.
  • Ensure that key business owners and users are actively involved in the design development and testing of solutions.
  • Ensure that our key technology services are resilient, secure, and scalable and that our cyber security, software development, and systems are constantly improved in line with the improvement plan outlined as part of our ISO accreditation.
  • Lead on the technical aspects of our business continuity.
  • Hold high level of knowledge, competence and experience in network security and infrastructure, encryption, and data retention policies, as well as data protection requirements and safe data storage and processing.



  • Influencing and interpersonal skills to bring stakeholders on board.
  • Degree in either Computer Science, Software Engineering, Web Design & Development, Engineering or Mathematics.


  • Experience of operating in an ISO9001 & 14001/Cyber Essentials accredited organisation.
  • Knowledge of the Data Protection Act and GDPR in relation to IT systems and security.
  • Experience of setting up and managing outsourced contracts for delivery and development of technology solutions and services.
