My client is a small cross-functional team of product managers, designers, hardware and software engineers developing a truly unique capability to digitise the world of chemistry. They have an ambitious roadmap of features and capabilities that we will be deploying to our worldwide user base and are looking for someone to help make their app, and the wider system, a joy to use.
They are looking for a talented, enthusiastic Java engineer to enhance the team and help build cloud architecture that will allow users take advantage of their data in ways they never have done before in this field. We require a Senior Java Engineer with commercial Google Cloud Platform experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designing and implementing Google Cloud Platform-based solutions for Deepmatter’s backend environment that operate to exacting storage, scale and performance requirements;
- Conduct storage, scale and performance tests and experiments of the end-to-end system to resolve engineering issues and be able to communicate highly numerate results to all Deepmatter colleagues to influence positive development outcome;
- Collaborate with Cloud Platform, desktop front-end and Android front-end colleagues to engineer solutions that meet technical end-to-end, user and senior management requirements;
- Provide in-depth technical knowledge when selecting Google Cloud Platform approaches to solutions to understand costs and long-term implications of using Google’s Cloud Platform; and
- Be able to integrate geographically separate systems using RESTful and SOAP-based APIs and have practical experience with caching architectures and how an appreciation of the CAP theorem leads to better systems.
- The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate practical and recent examples of where in their current and previous roles they have performed all the above duties to the very highest standard.
Key Skills & Experience:
- Senior developer skills in Java and Google Cloud Platform implementation and delivery, plus senior developer skills in Agile methodology use;
- Experience in the importance of prioritising work to both successfully deliver solutions, and retain a quality codebase and technology stack;
- Be able to deliver substantial solutions from both technical descriptions and non-functional requirements, taking solutions from design through to complete implementation, ready for testing and DevOps colleagues to successfully work with;
- Has a ‘can-do’ attitude and is happy working in a start-up, ‘get stuck in’ environment;
Technical skills:
- Debian Linux system (ARM and Intel) skills for Google Cloud Platform
- Bash, MySQL and GiT skills
- GCP technologies, including: StackDriver, Deployment Manager, AppEngine, Compute Engine & PubSub
