Nine Twenty Engineering are delighted to be working with a global heavy Engineering firm based in North Lanarkshire as they look to recruit an HSE Officer to join the team. As the HSE Officer your primary responsibility will be to maintain ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001 management systems and perform routine functions related to the sites environmental and safety requirements, HSE objectives and targets, and the overall Health, Safety and Environmental Management System (HSEMS). You will ideally hold a degree relevant to this role and a NEBOSH Certificate.

Key Responsibilities:

Routine functions may include:

  • Conducting risk assessments
  • Investigating accidents and Incidents
  • Maintenance of HSE documentation
  • Chair HSE committees
  • Preparation and delivery of training materials
  • Assists with internal and external HSE audits; resolves basic issues identified in audits
  • Supports the collection of site HSE KPIs for use at the site, BU and Corporate levels.
  • Monitors the day-to-day operations associated with safety, pollution prevention, waste and energy management, air quality, water quality and related programs.

Skills

Fundamentals of Health and Safety

  • Comprehensive knowledge of occupational health & safety.
  • Detailed understanding of general industry safety standards and the requirements of the more frequently referenced standards. Includes knowledge of basic health and safety concepts such as hazard and risk assessment, personal protective equipment, behavior based safety, machine / equipment safety, confined space entry, etc.
  • Detailed understanding of general industry environmental standards and the requirements of the more frequently referenced standards. Includes knowledge of basic environmental concepts such as waste management and pollution prevention.
  • Experience of maintaining ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001 management systems.

Risk Management

  • Understands the importance of a robust risk assessment process
  • Able to conduct suitable and sufficient risk assessments with minimal supervision
  • Able to justify conclusions
  • Understands the hierarchy of control techniques.
  • Investigation – Employees should be able to perform a thorough, effective incident investigation including root cause analysis, 5-why analysis and development of effective corrective actions.
