Health, Safety & Environmental Manager

Nine Twenty are delighted to be supporting our International drinks client who have an excellent working culture in their need for a HSE Manager to join their team permanently. As the HSE Manager you will primarily be based in Glasgow but will have the opportunity to travel to distilleries in North Scotland. 

You will be responsible for the development, maintenance and communication of the management systems ensuring a focus on minimising risk whilst ensuring regulatory compliance to Health, Safety and the Environment with a strong focus on production activities. 

The role will cover 5 key areas:

1. Health & Safety Management System

2. COMAH - Control of Major Accident Hazards 

3. Environmental Impact 

4. Compliance Legislation

5. Business Continuity 

  • You will manage Risk Assessment, Procedures and Policies, Accident Reporting, Permit to work system, Training coordination and Culture development
  • You will manage systems for managing site essential services (security and fire risk)
  • You will manage and take Ownership and maintenance of existing Safety Report
  • You will implement and imbed Emergency Response Procedures
  • You will liaise with the Competent Authority (HSE/SEPA)
  • You will coordinate links to regional council Contingency Planning Liaison Group (CPLG) chaired by North Lanarkshire Council
  • You will be a member of SWA COMAH sub committee
  • You will coordinate and develop Environmental Management System (ISO14001)
  • You will formalise environmental objectives, KPI’s and data collation
  • You will provide input to trade association environment strategy
  • You will manage compliance for the H&S at Work Act; DSEAR regulation; Noise at work regulations; Manual handlingFire Safety and Asbestos at Work Regulations

Skills required: 

  • Degree qualification or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of risk management principles including an awareness of risk assessment methodologies
  • Awareness of environmental risk and elements of management systems
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation (including COMAH, DSEAR, Health & Safety at Work Act)
  • Good oral and written communication skills
