Nine Twenty are working with an FMCG Manufacturing business who are on a fantastic and exciting journey of growth and they are now seeking to recruit a Head of Technical to be responsible for the overall direction, coordination and improvement/ development of the technical and environmental strategy and its alignment with the sites and overall business strategy. The role will drive a continuous improvement and process innovation culture within the site technical team, interfacing with the site senior management team and the Board functions to deliver improvements.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Set the sites technical plan which in turn promotes best practice throughout the technical department
  • Set the groups Technical and Quality agenda and maintaining product quality and safety. Lead and guide the HACCP team for each site
  • Succession planning for the technical team
  • Create and establish technical KPIs for the group
  • Create and the lead the business climate reduction program in line with the environmental policies
  • Ensure all sites adhere to the technical and environmental policies and procedures
  • Build and develop strong relationships with customers, suppliers and service providers
  • Negotiate with customers and suppliers on all relevant technical issues. Responsible for liaison with external bodies in relation to the quality, safety or legality of company products or operations, establishing strong links with recognized bodies/enforcement organizations e.g. local Environmental Health Department, SEPA etc.
  • Develop technical systems to allow the business to grow and adopt a total quality culture bottom up
  • Key player in ensuring that the company is always audit ready work towards a right first time culture. Ensuring company audit standards including BRC accreditation at the highest level and customer audits to Green status or equivalent
  • Ensuring compliance to any new or changes to legislation or customer requirements
  • As product integrity is paramount certifying that all relevant quality and technical systems are developed and maintained to the highest level and which promotes best practice
  • Prepare and present the sites budgets
  • Responsible for managing customer complaints and working with various departments where possible to eliminate issues that lead to these complaints. Collection and presentation of relevant information on customer complaints to management team and board
  • Collaboration with the wider teams and functions is a key requirement
  • Manage all site environmental issues and maintain relevant records for the authorities
  • Responsibility for water safety, swabbing, micro testing, pest control and waste.  Where relevant working closely with the Health & Safety Advisor to implement good practice

To be successful for this position you should hold a Degree in Food Science related subject, have experience of managing a full technical function and have a strong network across retailers and official groups/bodies, be an excellent communicator who can set a vision and drive the team to the end goal.
