Nine Twenty are proud to be working in Partnership with The North British Distillery with an exciting new role for Distillery Plant Shift Manager for their large Distillery in Edinburgh.

You will have the chance to work with one of Scotland's oldest and largest Scotch grain whisky producers. The North British Distillery is known for its distillation and maturation processes, producing grain spirit, which serves as the base for blended whisky.

This role is based in a heavy process environment and having a technical background would be ideal for this role. However, being data driven is key and understanding the need to analyse data on an hour-by-hour basis and being confident in making the right decisions with this data is paramount. Your ability to lead teams from the front as well as inspire them into new ways of working is an important aspect of the role as well as being commercially focussed.

The focus of the Distillery/Feeds Plant Shift Manager role will be to lead the Distillery/Feed Plant Operators to work together safely and efficiently to deliver the budgeted daily and weekly performance in accordance with an agreed weekly plan, controlling all direct and indirect costs to, or better than, budget values

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that all Distillery/Feeds Plant activities on site are carried out in accordance with the relevant work instruction whilst adhering to strict health & safety within a COMAH plant 
  • Issuing permits and conducting Risk Assessments 
  • Line management responsibility for Distillery/Feed Plant personnel through monitoring progress through annual Performance Focus Reviews, daily target reviews, supporting training development, creating succession plans as appropriate and taking corrective action where required.
  • Daily communication with all stakeholders regarding progress against the department’s requirements and KPIs resolving any required corrective actions through tiered management True North process.
  • Managing all available resources to optimise efficiency and meet budget and cost targets in the Distillery/Feeds Plant.
  • Provide leadership to the Distillery or Feeds Plant Shift teams, developing a culture, and implementing practices, that inspire all employees to achieve their full potential.

The ideal candidate will be/have:

  • A Technical & Management background with strong leadership capabilities coming from a Process/Technical/Project/Chemical/Production background
  • IOSH or NEBOSH certified 
  • Competent in permit to work systems, risk assessments and method statements 
  • A strong data driven mindset
  • Experienced in a Continuous Processing environment would be beneficial
  • A strong decision maker in a pressurised environment
