Nine Twenty are working with our Edinburgh Based Manufacturing client in their need for an Electrical and Controls Engineering manager to join their team permanently. 

Your responsibility will be to lead, support and coordinate the electrical team to work together safely and efficiently to deliver the budgeted performance in accordance with an agreed plans, controlling costs to, or better than, budget.

This role involves providing technical guidance for HV and LV site supplies, network management, SCADA performance, PLC and field installation design & reliability whilst ensuring adequate maintenance plans are in place and scheduled to ensure relevant statutory compliance and availability of services.

You must be an experienced and engaging line manager with proven success in leading & coaching operational teams - coming from a Process Plant or FMCG manufacturing environment. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain all controls and instrumentation equipment in accordance with Company health and safety requirements, incompliance with current legislation whilst maintaining a safe working environment for employees
  • Maintaining an awareness of the regulatory and Company standards that apply to the role such as HMRC, COMAH and H&S. COMAH specific - Understand and act as Mechanical & Electrical Support (Maintenance Representative where required) in the event of an evacuation or major incident, and regularly participate in COMAH improvement activity.
  • Electrical & Control Engineering Manager is also part of the Site Emergency Response rota.
  • Responsible for technical documentation and Management of Change
  • Continuously analyse current control philosophies and processes to identify opportunities to develop short, medium and long term plans to deliver the agreed levels of resilience, redundancy, obsolescence and recover management
  • Primary point of contact for manufacturing relating to electrical and controls updates and changes
  • Deliver third party support through service contracts and contractors with managed vendor performance
  • Develop data management to improve accessibility to internal and external control systems8. Analyse technology, resource requirements, and market demands to plan and assess the feasibility of controls projects
  • Provide project support to the major site initiatives and manage minor projects within your area of accountability and responsibility
  • Ensure all relevant industry standards, ACOPS and best practice is adopted in the processes, procedures and ways of working within the team
  • Line management responsibility for Electricians and Engineers, monitoring progress through annual Performance Focus Reviews, daily target reviews, supporting training development, creating succession plans as appropriate and taking corrective action where required

Skills/experience required: 

  • Qualified in an Electrical Engineering discipline
  • Coming from a FMCG or Process Plant Environment 
  • Familiar with electrical regulations, code and safe working practices 
  • Experience in leading & managing controls systems, PLC & HMI programming 
  • Experienced in supporting the introduction of new technology
  • Experience in coaching, leading, developing & managing teams
