Nine Twenty Technology are delighted to assist in the recruitment of a DevOps Engineer for their long-term exclusive Glasgow Client.

The Role:

Our Clients collaborative team specialise in developing creative connectivity solutions and are expert in enabling and providing connectivity for the Internet of Things. The environment is varied and includes web front ends, software defined networking, bespoke network integrations and managed services.  Many parts of the role are ‘green field’ and we are keen to rapidly change how we manage and maintain our systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Improve the infrastructure and supporting services
  • Service and system monitoring, deployment and scaling
  • Execute the deployment, administration, support and troubleshooting of environments
  • Work closely with stakeholders (Development, Quality Assurance and Frontline Support teams) to configure, monitor, troubleshoot and resolve issues or concerns
  • Continual improvement of systems and system management functions and processes
  • Test and evaluate software including security auditing, logging and capacity management
  • Troubleshooting reported issues
  • Maintaining documentation or audit records of all servers and services including at least installed version, software, license conditions and patches

Essential requirements:

  • Previous experience in Systems Administration roles
  • Solid understanding of fundamental systems architecture
  • Experience of network topologies
  • Basic understanding of SQL in particular MySQL and derivatives
  • Expertise diagnosing and troubleshooting complex technical issues
  • Strong Unix/Linux skills
  • Experience in automating operational tasks
  • Comfortable with at least one scripting language: e.g. Perl, shell scripts
  • Demonstrated excellence in communicating within and across teams
  • Demonstrable capacity for an investigative approach and keen to learn new technologies
  • Ability to herd cats
  • An appropriate level of obsession with system security

While not essential, familiarity/experience with the following would also be an advantage:

  • Systems orchestration and automation tools
  • Working with physical Infrastructure
  • Understanding of NoSQL database technologies
  • Racking or installing equipment in data centres
  • Specifying equipment to support services
  • Ability to speak in TCP and decode hex packet captures of IKE exchanges without the keys.
