The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a software developer with experience in Computer Vision to join a growing team working at the cutting edge of home diagnostics testing.  The role will support continued development of the technology including adding new capabilities and improving existing processes.  The team is growing to support continues business expansion.

This position would suit someone who has a strong background in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or digital signal processing with a keen interest in classic machine vision approaches as well as understanding where novel machine learning technology may compliment them.

Role Specific

  • Maintaining and enhancing the functionality in BBI’s proprietary imaging library – typically prototyping in Python and delivering production ready code in C, C++, or C#.
  • You will be driven by a desire to deliver working code into real world problems.
  • Understand the challenges real users of the technology face and designing solutions to overcome them, including adding to the BBI intellectual property portfolio.
  • Identifying ways to improve our internal processes and toolsets to accelerate development, build more robust readers and get innovations to market quicker.
  • Build software libraries and their accompanying documentation and data sets in a way that will demonstrate to customers, regulators and others that it may be relied upon to make, at times critical, decisions in challenging environments.
  • Whilst your role will likely not require day-to-day customer interaction, you will be able to discuss the complex ideas underpinning the technology with both internal and external stakeholders at a level appropriate to technologists from other science disciplines, and with an appreciation for the commercial realities of commercial software systems.

About you

  • Demonstrable experience in creating real world computer vision solutions is more important than formal qualifications – but it is likely that you will have a degree in Computing Science, Maths or Electrical Engineering related subjects and potentially post graduate qualification specialising in Machine/Computer vision.
  • Computer Vision ideally on resource limited hardware
  • Python development with NumPy, SciPy are related technologies
  • Modern development practices such as TDD
  • Ability to demonstrate performance and report on outcomes
  • Software development using C, C++ or C#
  • Team and commercial approaches to development such as Git version control
  • Algorithm optimisation
  • Good communicator at all levels
  • Ability to set realistic deadlines and stick to them
