Celtic Renewables is widely regarded as one of the most innovative Biotech companies in Europe,  who have developed a patented low-carbon technology that converts biological residues into high value low carbon sustainable bio-chemicals using an inspirational reinvention of a century old process known as the Acetone-Butanol-Ethanol (ABE) fermentation, to bring this age old fermentation back to the global scale.  The sustainable biochemicals produced by this innovative process can be utilised across a broad spectrum of much needed green products from biofuel, to cosmetics, food flavourings, hygiene and pharmaceuticals.  This pioneering company has completed the first stage of construction of their first state of the art processing plant in Grangemouth, a historical exemplar plant for Scotland, and are preparing to move to live plant commissioning early next year.

What are my Key Responsibilities?

  • As an Applied Microbiologist you will be a key member of the Technical Transfer Team who will safely and efficiently transfer knowledge from the laboratory, through plant development and commissioning to CRL group manufacturing facilities, and vice versa.
  • On a day to day basis you will monitor and advise on process efficiency and will work continually on process improvement/optimisation.

What are my Key Duties?

  • Leading by example, you will support a culture within the Technical Transfer Team team where safe and hygienic working practices, and the requirements of the Integrated Management System, are strictly followed, underpinned by the foundations of GMP and GLP, to ensure compliance with H&S, Environmental and other legal requirements. Through the processes that you will help develop, you will help ensure compliance to the CRL governance structure, and that Compliance, Quality and Cost are at the core of every decision
  • You will be a key member of the Technical Transfer Team, moving knowledge from the laboratory to the current plant and design and development of future plants, and vice versa. The Technical Transfer Team will be integral to the commissioning of future global plants
  • Your expert knowledge of the applied ABE process will then help ensure the delivery of the overall relevant tactical plans with the aim of continually improving operational Compliance requirements, optimising Quality, Yield, Volume and Cost
  • You will work closely with the Commercial and Innovation teams to develop our current and potential future products and co-products

Do you have the following Skills and Qualifications?

  • You will have a relevant Microbiology Degree (or equivalent) and/or ideally a minimum of 5 years’ experience within a manufacturing environment
  • You will have practical experience, or an ability to demonstrate awareness of the importance of, a hygienic/sterile/food grade manufacturing process
  • You will be capable of working towards gaining an expert knowledge of the applied ABE process and all associated processes/plant/equipment
  • You will have an impeccable standard of aseptic technique and other related microbiological laboratory techniques
  • You will have a working awareness of the FEMAS standard
  • As an integral part of your role, you will form strong working relationships with the various other members of the Technical Transfer Team, staying informed from R&D concept through to the realisation of plant trials. You will be one of the main liaisons between Manufacturing, Engineering, Innovation and Commercial teams with regards to R&D initiatives.
  • Assumes the role of project leader during assigned plant integration trials with accountability for reporting, data collation and future recommendations
  • Due to the nature and position of the Business you will be capable of independently managing your own time and tasks, bearing in mind that this is an organisation which is developing at pace
  • Additional skills that are advantageous: An understanding of chemistry/biochemistry; Integrated management systems experience
