While there are many ways to prepare yourself for a new role, we have hand picked five ways to help you feel more settled when starting your new role.
1. Research
While you would have carried out research on the company for your interview, it is best to carry out a deeper search into the company and it's employees. It's good to go over your research again and dig deeper, familiarising yourself again of the company, your responsibilities and any other important areas you want to cover. This will make you feel more prepared when starting your new role.
Your first day or week will be a lot to take in with meeting new people and learning new rules and regulations. To make it a little bit easier for yourself, research the employees at your company or those you will be working closely with. You could connect with them on LinkedIn, making it easier to remember their names and their role at the company. As well as this, it is important to research the company and it's employees to gather an idea of what the culture is like and how you will fit in.
2. Make Contact With Your Manager

While it is important not to be late at any point, it is especially important to arrive on time or a little early for your first few weeks in your new role. Whether you are working completely from home, hybrid working or completely in the office, it is important to be on time.
If you are working from home, make sure your laptop and other equipment is working, test your internet speed and always turn your laptop on before your official start time to allow for any delays it may have.
If you are traveling into work, it is important to allow delays for traffic, train or bus delays, weather and any other unforeseen circumstances that could affect your journey. You could consider practicing how you would get to work at your starting time, so you can understand what the traffic is like or public transport times.

However, it is important to dress appropriately on your first day and it will make you feel much more comfortable if you do so.
If you are unsure on what is appropriate to wear, just simply email your new boss and ask what the dress code is. Alternatively, you could check on your new employer's website or social media channels to see what sort of attire employees wear.
5. Relax and Be Prepared
Ultimately, the best thing to do before starting your new role is to relax and make sure you are prepared. In the upcoming days to starting your new role, make sure you have everything you need.
