Manufacturing

In schools and universities, STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

In the world of work, manufacturing is a key area of demand for STEM skills, so we use STEM as shorthand for Science, Technology, Engineering and Manufacturing.

STEM skills are hugely in demand as technologies like artificial intelligence, cloud computing, data science and the internet of things – the world of connected devices – drive increasing automation and change in industry and society.

This is often referred to as the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution’, 4IR, or Industry 4.0.
